A Homeowner’s Guide to Replacing Fences After Storm Damage
If there is one thing that is certain about living in the UK, it is the unpredictable weather! Storms aren’t something that you only have to worry about in the winter months, so it makes sense to know how to fix your fencing if one strikes. As the fencing company Woodbridge property owners trust, we’re here to talk you through how to replace your fence after storm damage, along with when it is best to give us a call.
What to do when your fence is damaged by a storm
The first thing you need to do is make sure that it is safe for you to access your fence. If the ground is very wet or the conditions are on and off, then it makes sense to wait until you can get to the fence without needing to negotiate with the weather too much! Once you are able to get out there and take a look at your fence safely, take the following steps:
- · Carefully remove the damaged panel by lifting it out from between the posts. You’ll want to take care not to damage any nearby fixtures, which is why it is important to wait until conditions are good to do this.
- · Now take a look at the fence posts. If they are still stable and upright, you can continue to use them. If they have suffered damage and seem weakened, then these will need to be repaired before you put a new fence panel in. You can do this using concrete or metal spurs.
- · If you have concrete slotted fence posts, then all you need to do is slide the new fence panel into place where the old one was. If your fence posts are wooden, then the new panel will need to be fixed in place using screws. Be sure to use ones that are water and rust-proof!
