Safety was a must when removing these decaying Ispwich Lombardy Poplar trees

REQUEST FREE QUOTATION

Lombardy poplars are certainly fast-growing trees. They can grow as much as 6 feet per year., which makes them a popular choice when people want “living wall” screening or windbreaks to garden areas that are open and prone to high winds. The Lombardy poplar tree is best known for its column centurion style shape, elegantly guarding the roadsides and gardens of the UK.

The project

For this project, our client had recently moved into the property and inherited a line of Lombardy Poplars. They sat across the left-hand boundary which bordered neighbours. This was of particular concern to the new owner, as the trees were extremely tall and could present a danger in the future. Poplar timber is naturally very soft, prone to decay and hollowing. This combination, along with high winds, can see a loss of limbs and potential damage to surrounding property.

When we inspected the trees, due to previous pruning and substantial reduction in the past, there were clear signs of hollowing and decay. With dense regrowth from the hold cut points and a high risk of this regrowth from snapping out, the trees were not safe to climb. We chose to use our superb RQG 18 narrow access tracked platform. We could work safely to reduce the regrowth down to the previous cut points.

This access platform was our only choice with restricted access, The RQG 18 is a fabulous platform, highly manoeuvrable, and very easy to work with.

The outcome

In Tree Surgery, knowledge and expertise is very important to protect either those who regularly use the location, or indeed the people who work on the tree. Without knowing the risks involved, climbing this particular tree could have presented a danger to our team. This is why we have a powerful arsenal of access platforms. They reduce the risk to our team as well as the local environment.

Elite carried out both fencing and tree work for us. The fencing work consisted of approximately 50 metres of new fencing and the removal of a 15m high Holly tree along with stump grinding ready for fresh planting during the spring. Really happy with the final result the team were friendly and made sure everything was left tidy afterwards. Work was competitively priced and clearly a professional business.

Dear Mr Thomas, thank you and your team for an exemplary job with which we are very satisfied. With the multi-stemmed Ash removed, we have been able to see the wood for the trees, so to speak. To avoid unnecessary constraints on future planting, we have decided to have the stump(s) ground out and I understand that you will arrange for that in the near future and look forward to hearing further from you.
